WHAT? No clever title?

so, I´m in this crazy country they call Brasil.  The people are nuts and the language is ridiculous.  I´m learning so much everyday, and forgetting more and more.  I´m fairly certain that my brain has one capacity and I´ve filled it and so now as I shove gosple and Portugues in English and other stuff is falling out.  Ha ha well I am soooo glad to hear that everyone had an awesome Easter.  Pasqua as its called here was pretty interesting.  Basically all it is in Bahia is just a whole lotta drinking and fish eatting.  HA ha they don´t eat meat because of something to do with eatting the flesh of Jesus.....question mark......My companion and I still have a little bit of a rough time trying to communicate.  Ha ha she lies to me all the time and tells me my Portuguese is good but She´s a terrible Liar and I know I sound like an Idiot.

So I have a new boyfriend.  I´m really sorry to all of you out there who thought they were waiting for me.  I don´t know his name because he thinks he is our investigator Madelena...who is a woman....Yea I´m not really sure.  But he is fairly certain that since we came to the house and asked for Madelena that that´s his name and he was also very excitd to see "his girlfriend" aka me......yea like I said lots of drinking durring Easter down here.

OKay awesome story of the week!!!!!  My companion and I were having a CRAP day.  We were tracting and trying to teach some people because NONE of our appointments were at home.....typical....and so we were walking and walking and getting nowhere.  like for reals, nowhere.  No one would let us in and it was just a very aweful day.  We were about to give up on the street we were on and move on towards a different area when my companion stopped and decided to "clap" one more door.  She clapped and I leaned against a big ol pole outside the door....we waited for a second and right as she was about to clap again these 3 women walked up.  I moved out of thier way and they happened to go into the house we were clapping.

Without hesitation or waiting for us to introduce ourselves they invited us in.  Ha ha Brasil.  We found out thier names are Claudia, Celeste, and Liliene.  Between them there are like 4 or 5 kids....all of which love me.  and I love them.  We taught them and they LOVED the lesson.  They are in SUCH a need for the Gosple.  They have no money, Claudia´s (the mother) boyfriend/husband/coinhabitant likes to drink and so they don´t really have money for food.  The power has been turned off at their house and they don´t have water.

Claudia and the children have huge sores from scratching mosquito bites and I´m no doctor but from the looks of them I´m pretty sure they´re infected.  They are sooooo ready for the gosple in their lives but they are slightly ashamed of thier current situation.  We went to their house early sunday morning to pick them up for church.  They weren´t ready.  They didn´t want to come because they were hungry because they didn´t have anything to eat for breakfast and their clothes were dirty because they had no water to wash them.

Please pray for this family.  They need help more than most people I know.  They are sooo loving still though.  They have nothing they still offer to make us food and they always want to share with us.  I can´t believe how amazingly humble the people are down here.  It´s ridiculous.

Anyways it´s not all sad and gloomy, we have a few other investigators who are close to Baptism.  I´m really sad because today marks the 3rd month since I´ve left home and I haven´t had a baptism yet.  I just have to tell myself that it´s in the lords time.  It´s really really hard though when you work and work so hard and think you have perfect investigators but they don´t keep commitments.

My companion somehow figured out that | know how to play the piano and as soon as we walked into the chaple she told the bishop and his councilors.  OH, yes, I´m in a ward, not a branch.  it´s pretty tiny though. but Guess who played a half broken mini Organ in church?  THIS GIRL!!!  Yea, so an Organ is not the same as a Piano and I have never really like the sound it produces.  ha ha but hey, what can you do when its all they have right?  well I played the best to my abilities and had about 15 small brazillian children surrounding me the whole time.  And then the Relief Society 1st councilor slash choir director slash primary teacher (there aren´t too many members down here) asked me if i´d play for the special musical numbers (yes plural) in church the next sunday for ward conferrence.  Why not? ha ha wow choir is an interesting concept here in Brazil.  They all LOVE to sing but none of them really know what´s going on.  My favorite thing is to watch people lead the music, they do it with so much care and all I can do is think "If sister Cobia could see this" ha ha it´s BeAUTIFUL.

Maria and Mario, the one´s with the dog, have to be dropped.  They are so ready for the Gosple and they really need it but they won´t commit and my companion said that we can´t keep visiting them because it is a waste of time (I think it sounds nicer in Portugues) but she is right.  THey aren´t golden, it´s not their time.  They will come around some day.

The bug situation is getting better slightly, I found out that my apartment hasn´t been cleaned in a while because Elders lived there and my companion has only been here a little while longer than me (In Catu) and every P-Day she hasn´t been able to clean because of meetings and what not.  I just thought it was gross everywhere in Brasil and just tried to tip-toe around the scary stuff.  BUT this morning I got up and CLEANED!!!!!  our apartment is actually pretty nice under all the dirt and grossness of elder remnants.  I´m pretty sure that as I (yes me, the sloppy one) continue to sweep and make sure there aren´t crumbs all over the place the bug count will go down.

Umm...So, for some reason the insects here are imune to repellent and the members don´t understand this.  ha ha they look at the bug bites on my legs (no, I don´t wear nylons....are you kiddin gme it´s like 8 million degrees here) and they say "voce quer repelente?" do you want repellant? no.  I already smell like a walking chemical factory, your stinking Brazilian bugs from h. e double hockey sticks don´t care how much spray I use, I just taste too good.  ha ha but I don´t know how to say this in portuguese so I say yes, I used some....but they don´t understand and procede to rub all sorts of crap on my skin.  Goodness, I know they are just trying to help and they love me......but as a missionary, I don´t always have time to shave thoroughly....embarassing much?  anywhays

Other than the unbearable heat and itchy bugbites I am loving every moment down here.  The church is true.  I know this and someday everyone else will too.  Whether it´s here on earth or not is up to us as members.  Seriously though, it is soooo not fair for us to walk around knowing the truth and having the joy and peace it brings and not sharing it with others.  I have been guilty of this my whole life and I really hope that I don´t continue in my old patterns (yes mom I still know what a pattern is....did you know it has more than one meaning!?!?!?!) Anyways don´t go around shouting at people from the street corner about the modern prophet but be a good example.  Walk in Christ´s footsteps and when people ask, "what is it about you that is so different" explain that you have the fullness of the true gosple of Jesus Christ.  You have the Gift of the Holy Ghost because you are a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Siants.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE I miss you all I love you lots and I can´t wait to hear all about your shenanigans this week.  Tell Tom I love him and am thinking and praying about him (let me know when he gets outta the hospital).  Give everyone a big hug for me!!!!

Tchau Beijo!!!

how do you say?.....

BRAZIL!!!!!

okay to start off this keyboard is wicked weird soooo....sorry if my spelling is terrible and whatnot. So, Ill start at the flight here. I got to Sau Paulo no problem but once there I had to find my plane to |SAlvador on my own........yea they don´t teach you portuguese in the mtc....im not sure what language i learned anyways, some nice brazillian who knew approximately 4 english words tried to tell me where my gate was. i found it and then proceded to try and purchase a beverage that i recognized......harder than it sounds. BUT i found a weird flavor gatorade....i dont recomend the wierd pink flavor. and i went to go back to my gate but some lady was closing the door in the hall.....so i ran.....and she started blabbing at me in what i assume was portuguese.....awesome....she points at another gate and tells me (i think) i need to go there....anyways i found my way here and i am in SALVADOR!!!! it is sooo awesome!!!! Not the south and NOT america....go figure

| ate burger king my first day here......not so much....haha ha these people have a twisted opinion. anyways my companion is sister bezerra which literally translates to calf.....ha ha ha ha umm....she picked me up at the mission office and we took a super long super late busride from salvador to my area. (ill talk more about that soon) Sister Bezerra doesnt speak any english by the way....like none. ridiculous. ha ha and she was trying to tell me that when we got to our stop a member was going to pick us up with a car to take my things back to our house.....great i thought, because these bags are heavy and im sick of fighting them..... well guess what...car and cart are very clost to the same word in portuguese as well....bah ha ha ha ha ha ha yea this guy comes walking up to the bus station with a cart to carry my bags in.....i about peed. oh man this is gonna be interesting.

so, once i read a MLIA that this person had squashed a bug on the wall and left its corpse as a warning to the other bugs.....well there are about 6 bajillion bugs in our apartment. its really quite frightening....i hate it as you can guess but oddly i´m not freaking out. i can do this.....i really can :) but one night after brushing my teeth i saw a big ugly bug on the wall and i worked up enough courage to smash it with my flip flop. then i remembered the MLIA and laughed to myself.....i left it there. guess what i found in the morning....MILLIONS of bugs.....EATTING the smashed one!!!! bah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha my plan totally backfired!!!! great....
My hair is an absolute joke here. It rains all day everyday. and its super humid all day everyday NOTHING is ever dry. ha ha Espescially my towel. I open my wardrobe and my clothes feel damp. awesome!!! ha ha its pretty funny. my skin loves it though super soft!!! ha ha, but i wake up sweaty and i never stop sweating. it is soooooo hott here!!! ill probably die.
so, my area!!! I am in CATU BAHIA, please do me a favor and dont google missions in catu. really, just dont do it. you can learn all you want about the area but just dont look anything up having to do with missions here.

as far as mail goes it always will go to the mission office the address SHOULD be on my blog (hint hint) and if its not then we´re all in trouble because i don´t know it :) as much as i LOVE mail I know its really expensive to send stuff here so e-mails will suffice :) BUT should you get the aching to send me a birthday package I would not object!!! I would LOVE some more altoids, and supplies to make rice crispies for my companion :) and an AWESOME gift would be a mini Preach my Gospel in Portuguese :) I don~t think you can buy these i think you have to make them.....i´m not sure but i bet you could google it :)

so more about brazil......cows and horses are always just kickin it in the street.....like no joke....straight up hanging out eatting trash off the side of the road.

speaking of streets.....if I DO die here I promis it will be something to do with a car or bus. these people are NUTS!!!! ha ha but I feel really safe here. like really. The people are sooo awesome.

its a really good thing i havent been spoiled my whole life with a car and air-conditioning and things like that or else this would be REALLY hard ;)

ha ha sorry this letter is sooo scatter brained we only get a specific amount of time and I want to get all my thought out and so my letters are like my brain....scrambled.

the people are SUPER humble, i seriously cannot complain about my life ever again, because these people have NOTHING and honestly in comparison, I have everything. But lets face it folks, the gosple IS everything. so, I~ve had it all for a LONG time.
OH!!! funny story!!! so when I flew from wash to the MTC my smaller Zebra bag was searched my security. I found a little note in my bag when I got to the MTC. Pretty funny considering it was just full of crap. ha ha and THEN when |I flew to NC it was searched AGAIN!!! this time I about peed because it had 2 quart sized tubs of peanut butter AND an 18 months suply of TAMPONS!!!! bah aha ha ha ha well guess what.....I got home here in Catu and MY BAG WAS SEARCHED AGAIN!!!! oh my word I wish I would have saved the notices from the first 2 times. sooo funny.

sooo the people here are SOOOO accepting, they LOVE to invite people in and Teaching is fun!!! I dont do much because i hardley ever know what is going on BUT i still love it! We were teaching the second lesson which is the plan of salvation to an investigator. and we got to the spirit world and were telling her about spirit prison and paradise and how we still have the chance to learn the gosple after this life. for some reason it has never occured to me how awesome of a blessing this really really is. Our heavenly father loves us sooooo much, he gives us SOOOOO many chances. wow. anyways jaqueline was talking about how this was a real blessing because her mom has already passed and sister bezerra got quiet for a second and then said, your mom has already accepted the gosple there....WHOA!!! talk about your BOLD statements!!! and then we got into a little bit about temple work. Oh man, It is soooo awesome to watch people grow and learn and come to the light!!!!

Anyways, I had the biggest epiphany in that lesson. Geneology is soooo importand like more important than most other things because if we really do want to have our families for eternity, we HAVE to do all the temple work we can. SOOOOO I challenge ALL of you to find a name in the next couple weeks and take it to the temple whether for baptism or something endowment. DO IT!!!!

so we~re also teaching this HILARIOUS couple Mario and Maria he is in a wheelchair and she is lovely. They can~t read but its all good they have accepted the gosple and they~re getting baptised on sunday!!!!!!!! its sooo amazing!!! but they have this dog....its this chubby little chiuaua thing and all i thought the first night was these people really dont have much why do they choose to feed this dog and waste money on it? well they dont have to feed it. ha ha ha the thing eats BUGS!!!! soooo funny to watch, he looks like a frog my companion told me. its sooo true, he really really does. he is constantly finding bugs and then eattingthem but his tongue is like hanging out of his mouth and hes trying to keep all the legs inside oh man, laugh a minute.

okay sooooo it is like 6 thousand degrees here SO mom if you love me, you will try to find my white linen skirt :) please and any cotton t-shirts (without holes) that I could wear proselyting. or if you REALLY love me you´d just go to target and get me some cute t-shirts that i could wear :) i´m just saying.

okay I love you all soooo much!!! I have to go now though!!! Don~t forget me!!! WRITE ME!!! I love hearing about your lives!!!!

Never regret!!!! Be awesome!!! Remember to have family night EVERY week.....mayby this week you should invite a non-member family to do it with you!!!! just a suggestion!!! dang if I had time i´d tell you all about the family night we had....it was soooo fun!!!!! next week if i remember I will <3

I LOVE YOU!!!!!!

From the Mission President's Wife After Meredith Arrived in Brazil

I would like to inform you that Sister Ottley got here in Salvador yesterday. Soon, she received training and was assigned to her area with her first conmpanion. For our mission is a great blessing to have her with us.

Any questions we are willing to help. You also can see pictures of her at our mission blog: www.missao-salvador.blogspot.com as soon as we upload the pictures.

Thanks

K, seriously? I just got unpacked!!!!

FAMILY!!!!!!!
Guess what. Going on a mission does not make your life ANY less crazy. I haven't had a real nights sleep since I started thsi crazy adventure. Tuesday i finally got the last of my clothes unpacked and all that fun jazz. It really is a task to get organized when there are 3 sisters trying to share 1 closet. But we did it!!! Then wednesday evening durring language study Sister Thomas (mission pres' wife) called and said "well now that you've got everything all unpacked how bout you pack it right back up again?!?!" WHAT?!?!?! I'M GOING TO BRAZIL!!!!!! I can't hardly stand it!!!! I'm gonna freak out later thoguht because I just don't have time to do it now. maybe in like 16 months or so ;) Anyways really cool story time!!!!!
Our Heavenly Father really really does hear and answer our prayers and he WANTS to give us blessings, all we have to do is ask. So the last couple weeks at the MTC I prayed EVERYDAY that my VISA would come. I prayed for that more than anything I think, pretty sefish right? I thought so too. So once I got reassigned and came out here to North Carolina, I stopped. I prayed for things like investigators and safety (go figure). I really like it here and english is a pretty cool language. But I realized that I was still called to Brasil, and I should probably do all I could to get there. I humbled my stubborn self (yea, can you believe it?) and asked my Heavenly Father that if I was meant to go to Brasil could I please have a VISA (I did this in Portuguese and in better words of course) and Sister Thomas called me that night. Yea, I'm gonna go with it's where I need to be.....
So I leave tomorrow (tuesday the 12th) and so I'll be flying out of Charlotte at 11:20 I won't call ya'll at home at that time (it'll be like 7:30 your time when I'm in the airport) , I'll probably wait til my EIGHT HOUR layover in Texas.....yes, I said eight hours!!!! If you want me to call you just let my mom know (509-785-6125, leave a message) and get her your phone number so that after I talk to them I can call ya. I will land in Brasil around 9:00 AM on wednesday so yea, 24 hours of airplanes and airports WOO!!! Pray for me?
NEW ADDRESS!!!!
Sister Meredith Rae Ottley
Caixa Postal 6946
Pituba

BRASIL
Mail is super expensive so don't feel bad if you don't send me anything. :) but you BEST be emailing me...like right now. k, thanks :) LOVE YA!!!
ANYWAYS even thoguh I'm leaving tomorrow the work is still going SOOOO amazing here in Shelby, North Carolina. Mom and dad wanted to know where abouts I was......yea I have no idea. Haha I love it though. I think my district is something about Gastonia....? Ha ha maybe Pete will be able to tell you something more. We have investigators in Waco, Cherryville, KingsMountain and a whole lotta other places that I can't ever remember the names of. (a.k.a. my area is quite large.)
So you know those cheesy comercials for mormon.org and LDS church stuff? Guess what?!?!? THEY WORK!!! we had a referral for Denise, she is the collest lady. SHe is the BEST cook in the world (no offense mom) and she makes cakes from scratch everytime we come. not just a boring old regular cake but REAL life coconut cream, strawberry, lemon, orang glaze etc. Wow, it's amazing. Anyways she knows the bible inside and out and will let you know if you are saying something that doesn't line up exactly (oh goodness the Holy Ghost has to work hard while I'm teaching because I don't know the Bible at ALL) ha ha she came to church yesterday and i'm SOOOO sad that I don't get to meet with her again because I really wanted to help her recognise the spirit she felt. BOO!!! stinkin VISA!!! ANyways she made chicken and dumplins' (not a spelling error) Chicken and Dumplins should better be reffered to as a Heart Attack. Holy Heavy Food!!!! But it was SOOOOO good. Man alive. ANYWAYS LOVE her!!!
Our 13 yearold investigator Alex came to young womens on wednesday. I forgot how fun those activities were. She was one of two young women....yup and guess who the young women president is? The other girls mom. Wow, I had no idea how blessed I really was to have a Youth Organization the size I did. Anyways Alex ahd a lot of fun and I really hope she will continue to come. She accepted the invitation to be baptised so pray that her family will not get in the way.
FUNNY STORY NUMERO DOIS!!! So I hope you all recognize that I am the same ol scatter brained nothing really works out the way it's supposed to Meredith. My companions get to laugh at me running up the stairs back to our apartment about 3 times before I get in the car because I ALWAYS forget something. Anyways Wednesday is District meetings. Fun right? oh yes. So it was in a far away land....(don't ask where, I have no idea) and so we'd arranged for a member to take us there and another to pick us up....so we thought. We're sitting around our apartment wednesday morning just waitin to hear from our member.....its getting close to 15 minutes past and we called him....HE WAS IN CHARLOTTE!!! he had NO IDEA he was giving us a ride. Oh goodness....."get in the car sisters We're LATE!!!" ha ha we had to drive all the way there. Thank goodness for GPS or we'd have been LOST!! the only bad thing about driving ourselves is that we don't get that many miles every month and so it means that later in the month we won't be able to go visit those of our investigators who live further out. Not awesome. SOOOO moral of the story is!!! if you ever have the opportunity to give the missionaries a ride, TAKE IT!!! it helps more than you will EVER know!!!
Okay, gross...did you know that those grub things in the Lion King ACTUALLY EXIST!?!?!?!? well guess what?!?! I found one!!! we were pulling some weeds...well ALOT of weeds....and this wiggly thing was on the ground. Guess what? I screamed. ha ha SHOCKER!!! my companion Sister Knight PICKED IT UP!!!! are you kidding me!?!?! ew, it was nasty and huge and fat and just plain gross. but It was totally worth is because the lady we were pulling weeds for lost her husband and has had a lot of hardships. I love service, DO IT!!! even if its something as simple as waling someone's mail up their drive and chatting with them for a few minutes. I've learned since being on my mission that EVERYONE loves visitors!!! Even if they are complete strangers in skirts with frizzy hair (yea humidity is great).
Along those lines!!! OLD PEOPLE ARE THE BOMB!!! When I get home I am going to try to visit as many widows and old guys as possible. We have this AWESOME investigator who is going to be baptised the first weekend in May. I am so excited fo rhim I might die. he is 60 has liver cancer and would make millions if her went on to do stand up comedy. Oh man, you just have to hear him to understand what I mean. He is the coolest guy ever. He told us he used to be in a band, ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!? that is soooo cool. I can't look him up but you guys should and let me know how awesome he was. He said I could google "1960's Texas garage Bands" and his band's name was "Four More" or "The Chosen Ones" (not jewish) ha ha and the number one song was supposedly "don't give up hope" or "problem child" I love it!!!
OH MY WORD!!! I am seriously in the land of White trash, Lard, tobacco, dogs and Baptists. Every person I meet has at least one dog and if they don't have one they have 50 and they all smoke or have family that smokes in their house....EVEN IF IT'S A MEMBERS HOME!!! Yuck. and if they're not Baptist, they're Methodist. CRAZY!!! there is litteraly a church on every corner in this crazy place. Which means there has to be at least 2 preachers living on every street.....GUESS who tracts into them just about everyday. And I'll tell you what, I have never met nicer people....but I've also never met ruder ones either. Ha ha just be sure that if you are trying to represent our Savior jesus Christ you do it in every aspect of your life okay? thanks.
HOLY STORM!!! It hailed golf balls here on saturday night. We had to cancel our appointments because our mission prez wanted us to stay indoors. It was the coolest thing ever!!! ha ha but scary too. lots of people lost power and it was crazy.
K, I've typed a random novel at this point so i'll sign off. I love you all. Keep me posted on your lives!!!! I love you alll soooo much thank you for all your support and prayers. Sorry my letters aren't more thorough and organized, I'm a scatter brain. Keep up the good work NEVER REGRET!!!
XOXOXOX,
Sister Ottley

HEY EVERYONE!!!!
This week has been one crazy crazy roller coaster of emotions!!!! I had to say goodbye to 2 elders in my district. I love them alot and we've all grown really close together as a District Family and now it's all getting torn apart. Our teachers tell us all the time about how they think our district is really special because we are super different from other districts they've had in the past. I don't know what it is but we were seriously all chosen for the same district for a reason. Our Heavenly father REALLY knows what he is doing!!!!
So, I don't remember what I said last week. But sister Withers was sent out early and so her companion needed a comp. Therefore my tri-fecta was split up. Muito Triste, but it's all good. Sister Davis and I are comps now and we are LOVING it!!!! I loved the Trio SOOOO much but this is way fun too!!!! We get alot more done for some reason. Ha ha for instance, one day we just went and hid from everyone else and memorized James 1:5 in Portuguese and Doctrine and Covenants 4 in english and prepared a lesson in Portuguese. It was the most productive 2 hours of my life!!!!!!
So since our district was getting slpit up we decided we would all do something fun and special together.....so we played 4-square in gym. If you've been to the MTC you know that 4-square is a BIG deal. Like, no joke. People get serious injuries from the game. Anyways, if you know me you know that I have little to none hand-eye coordination and so i'm sure you can assume what went down on the court. Ha ha not pretty. One elder (not from my district or zone) was really mean and got me out in a "lame way" to quote Elder Daniels. And so everyone booed him and made him feel really guilty. I laughed for like 4 minutes straight.
Wednesday is new missionary day!!!! I LOVE it every week I'm sooo grateful that I never have to do THAT particular first day again. ha ha but this week I got to host the new comers and show some new sisters around. It was really fun to hear they're stories and why they're on missions. I used to hate mission stories but now I super love them. GO figure :)
Anyways Wednesday night we had a district Testimony meeting where we all shared our thoughts and feelings and cried together and it was beautiful. I love it here so much. The spirit was soooo strong and I know that "my elders" are gonna be great missionaries. They know their stuff and they love our Heavenly Father sooo much!!!!!
They left yesterday morning and so we all had a big cry-fest outside while they loaded the bus. I miss them already but I know that they are where they need to be.
Three more people in my district recieved their VISA's this week. Sister Turner, Elder Mollerup, and Elder Schwartz.....all from washington. I don't want to get my hopes up but at this rate I'll either go right into the field on the 29th or only be re-assigned for a week. I am soooo excited!!!!!!! I only have 11 days left here! I am trying to make the best of it and use my time wisely but at the same rate I catch myself daydreaming about Brasil!!!!
If they don't accept my VISA I will be temporarily re-assigned soooo.....I want to hear all your guesses for where I'm going!!!! My district has guessed everything from Nauvoo (my personal favorite) to Texas ( I have the wardrobe for it) ha ha
P.S. You can dear elder me, email me or write me!!! I'll have the addresses updated as my mission pregresses!!! and FYI I ALWAYS write back the following P-Day when I get mail. and I LOVE getting mail :) But if you email me PLease put your Physical address in the email so I can write back.
anyways I really wish you all a very happy week. I don't have time for a spiritual message but know that I love you and so does our heavenly Father!!!!! Be Good!!!!
LOVE,
Sister Ottley!!!!!

March 5th--Week 6

Hello world!!!
I really really cannot believe that I've been here for over a month already!!! It's been awesome, I've learned and grwon SOOO much!! I can't believe that I only get to stay here til the 29th!!!! Yea!!!! I"m 1/18th of the way done?!?!?!? what?!?!?!? that is NOT enough time!!!! I still have zero information on the Visa status but I'll keep you posted. I know that if I get reassigned it's because I told people in the pre-earth life that I would bring them the truth so I'm really not too worried about it. so nonee of you should be either :)
The weather here is ridiculous!!! sunny and awesome one day and snow the next!!! But its great! I don't have much variety in my life so anything is nice at this point.
So this week my teacher sister Dickson got engaged that was pretty fun! and she started her "progressing investigator" and we put her on date for baptism!!! it is SOOO awesome!!! I cannot wait to do real life teaching where I get to talk to people who really DON'T know anything about the church!!! It's going to be soooo amazing!!!
We taught in the TRC in POrtuguese for the first time this week....I'm an idiot. I told our investigator the "we want you" like 3 times....stupid.I was trying to say we want you TO....but i failed... My companion also told a story in which an elder ate 15 windows...'janelas' instead of 15 bowls 'tijelas' of cereal it was great. Portuguese...I tell ya what, wow.
Choir was AMAZING this week we sand my FAVORITE!!!! 'Come thou Fount' not a dry eye in the house!!! ha ha it was FABULOUS!!! and Bishop edgley spoke and I loved it!!!! it was sooo great!!!!! seroiusly, words cannot describe how amazing my life is!!! If you have ever thought you should serve a mission...DO IT!!!! It is soooo awesome!!!!!
Success in ANY aspect of life is simple.....It's all about hard work and faith!!!! You KNOW our Heavenly Father would never have you do somehting you couldn't so DO IT!!! in Doctrine and Covenants i78:19 it says recieve all things with thankfulness and in 98:1-3 is says All things wherewith you have been afflicted shall work together for your good and to my names glory, saith the lord. OH. MY. WORD!!!! It is sooo true!!! Keep the faith that everything will work out because it WILL!!!! I have seen this happen SOOO many times!!! There are SOOO many trials in life. I met a guy who got to see his dad for a total of 3 hours befor his mission because they were both deployed to Iraq and lines crossed etc. and THEN he had to have surgery here in the MTC WHAT!?!?!?! are you KIDDING me?!?!? his life is like the hardest thing I've ever heard of!!! But I'm just sitting pretty and I complain about a cold shower and crappy food everyday!!! wow, this is seriously a HUMBLING experience!!! anyways Stay faithful!!! and remember!!! Everything happens for a readson! there are not coincidences only small miracles!!!
Don't you DARE ever regret!!! learn from your experiences and live your life the way Jesus lived his ;)
LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Miss ya'll (but not enough to come home anytime soon)
Sister Ottley
MOM AND DAD:
THANK YOU for the package!!!! THANKS THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!
I'm not too surprized that a bunch of people are getting engaged....happens all the time. I sent some letters for lindsey and jocelyn it's REALLY important they get them....PLEASE don't put it off PLEASE!!!!!
I didn't have a wall charger that worked for my blackberry but there are like 2 or three car chargers
Tell the sisters I love them and to keep up the good work
I'm glad the play is over and I really do think your headaches are all in your head mom...youre nuts but thats why i love ya!!!
Time out for women?!?!? I'm so jealous!!! that is gonna be the coolest thing EVER!!! SLUMBER PARTY!!!!! thats sooo awesoem!!!!
DAD: what happens when a single mom dies?!?!? does she ever get to be sealed to her children? please explain this doctrine to me!!! I don't get it I know they cant be sealed in this life because there is no patriarch in the family but what about next life?!?!?! I'll miss barthomomoo
I love ya it's blinking at me!!!
I dont' want you guys to ever think that I'm not working hard, I'm sooo glad I'm hear and I'm soo greatful for the sacrifices made for me to be here!!! I am trying to make every second count here so that when I'm in Brasil I can bring all my brothers and sisters home! I love you!!! I miss you!!!! Don't forget me!!!!
Go to the temple this week, seriously. It's SOOO awesome!!!!

Well I'm goin grey!!!!

Hey family and friends!!!
First off THANKS soooo much for the letters, Emails and love!!! I know you are all praying for me and I appreciate it more than you can ever know!!!! Just a few updates: They fixed our showers!!! YIPPIE!!!! I guess enough complaining can get you pretty far in the MTC :) I'm just joshin...sorta...ha ha one of the sisters went nutso and freaked out until someone finally listened...I just stood by and tried to not draw attention to the situation. Working out is good, there is a sisters only gym in the mornings where a lady comes and leads us in awesome stuff like step boxing (yes, step boxing like from the 90's) ha ha and the music we do it to is like hymns set to a drum beat...weird I know but we love it. The food still sucks, I still haven't gained 40 pounds thank goodness however the elders in my district have been complaining about tight suit pants ha ha. I love them.
My Companions (sister Davis and Turner) and I got a new roommate this wednes day!!! she is awesome (sister bailey from Seattle) she's goin to Brasil too!!! we love her!!! I saw Whitney Christensen she looks great!!! she's doing really well. The MTC is so awesome!!! To all of you coming at some point just remember this: The MTC is what YOU make it. You can be miserable because your stuck in a tiny cubicle with 19 year-old boys (who smell like feet) all day or you can embrace the fact that you are learning how to serve the lord!!!!
Anyways, this week was full of all sorts of spiritual experiences!!! We've met with our imaginary investigator twice since I last worte about him. Cristiano read AND prayed!!! I about fell off my seat when he told us!!! He said he didn't feel much different or anything too special but he did feel that what we were teaching was good and that he should learn more!!! HEY!! what more can you ask for after an EPIC fail of a lesson? Anyways we got a new 'progressive investigator' this week too her name is Lucimara and she is amazing!!! we had a really spiritual lesson with her and I can't wait to teach her all about eternal families because she is gonna LOVE IT!!!
So today after we had our session in the temple My comps and I were waiting for the elders (typical, they are soooo slow ;) ) and i leaned forward and the light caught my hair....my companion grabs a strand and wispers "hey you have a really blonde....wait i think its a white hair..." I quickly reponded with "PULL IT OUT!" in a whisper of course. she yanks it out and sure enough...there it was....in the flesh...a white hair. I'm 21 years old!!!! this can't be happening to me!!!! darn it all!!!! ha ha My companions said it was becuase of all the stress I've been under....I said "I thought the explosion of schne on my face was the result of the stress!!!" ha ha the lord is trying real real hard to humble me and I will have none of it ;)
Anyways to answer some more questions: my departure date is the 29th of March. And that's only if my visa goes through. I did fill the electronic portion out finally last week and they say visas can take up to 8 weeks after thazt. I don't have any other update on my visa. If my visa is not here by the 29th of March I will get reassigned to another mission temporarily in the united states. I won't have any idea about that until it comes closer. Sorry, trust me NO ONE wants this infor more than I do!!!
I honestly don't care who buys my car ha ha I don't really have much need for it but if you really are truely interested call my dad (509) 785 6125.
I'm not sure what other questions there were....ha ha sorry I wish they would let us print...OH THAT WAS IT!!! No, we don't get to print emails. I CAN see attachments however but I can't send any. I went to the bookstore and tried to print some pictures but apparently they have prehistoric photo developers and it taked 10 DAYS!!!!! BUSINESS DAYS!!! to get pictures made. SOOO it will be a while. I don't really get it because at Walmart it takes like 5 minutes...but whatever. ha ha
Well I hope you all have a really really good week!!! I LOVE LOVE YOU ALL!!! I miss you!!! I miss real food (i even miss cooking) I miss chewing gum after every meal I miss my shoes I miss long long showers whenever I want I miss hugging boys I miss my family and friends I miss driving But NOTHING is better than this!!! I am sooo blessed I am so lucky to be able to share what I know about the gosple with my brothers and sisters!!!
Go to the temple!!! Do what you KNOW is right!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!

February 13th--Week 3 at the MTC

Hey everybody!
This week was really great!!! Food is still awful but HEY!!! I have lost 5 pounds!!! ha ha funny story, I was weighing myself in the gym one morning and about had a heart attack....the scale tipped off at like 245 and I just about hyperveltillated, but I looked down to inspect myself to see where all this weight was sitting and saw the foot of Elder Hendricks (from my district) pressing down the scale. phew!!!!
Anyways, I love you all!!! Thanks SOOO much for all the valentine wishes and cards and candy, but really I ate like 50 pounds of straight sugar. Not awesome but still, thank YOU!!! Uhm, to all of you who have been sending me emails, THANKS SOOO MUCH!!!
I love you guys! BUT I only get 30 minutes to email and it's timed soooo....if you could send me your physical addresses I'll send you a old fashioned hand written letter (yea, they DO still exist). Devotional was awesome!!!! Fireside was AWESOME!!! I love it here. I know everyone says they hate the MTC but serio?? it's amazing!!! The spirit is with us ALL day EVERYday!!! I'm surrounded by people with the same standards and goals as me!! It's like a 9 week long EFY.
There is NO news on my VISA. Some of the people in my district were able to fill out their online applications and take that one step closer to haveing THIER visas....but not me. Nope, I'm not bitter....(yes I am, but I'm working on charity and being loving) but oh well.
Okay so the MTC has this habit of making you feel really great. My teachers are constantly telling me how good I am at the language and how awesome our teaching is but.....THEN I go find some native Brazillian in the cafeteria and he talks to me and I think to my self "that's not the laguage they taught me at the MTC" (kudos if you can name that movie) I feel more and more innadequate each day. Humility has taken over my life. It's a really really good thing but still.....I'd like it to be easier ;)
We went to the Temple today I have a new goal in life: I want to be one of the little old ladies in there!!! They are seriously the nicest people in the world. Everytime I go, I make a fool of myself and everytime, they make me feel better. They smile and are sooo sweet!!! SOOO therefore, I am gonna have to be EXTRA nice so that when I'm old a gray (not that they're all old and gray, I'm stereotyping) I can be one of the little old temple workers.
I'm trying to think really fast of a good story from this week but I don't have one.....Our teacher changed the schedule ALL over the place and so we weren't able to teach Cristiano again. BUMMER because we had an AWESOME lesson planned. oh well, tomorrow we will teach him and he will be baptized. :) I hear good things about the work in Brazil all the time and I am sooooo excited!!! My MTC departure date is set for march 29. However we may not be able to leave that day. Typically, people have been staying an extra week and then getting reasigned to other places stateside until their Visa's come.
Our zone leaders just got reasigned to Florida, santa vaca talk about your culture shock!!! ha ha ha ha anyways it could be anywhere from florida to boston to butte montana (yea it happened a couple weeks ago) so...keep praying for the work to continue in Brasil!!! even if its not me, I just know that Those people need the word!!!!
I love you all don't stop writting me!!! serio! Mail is like the BEST part of my day!!!
Spiritual tidbit: don't let your faith stand in the wisdom of men but in the power of God! Read your scriptures daily and get to the temple AS SOON AS YOU CAN!!! the work is sooo important! and serio, the scriptures are soo amazing!!!
LOVE YA!!!
Sister Ottley
Jill: santa vaca you are the bomb thank you for the package!!!
Gwen: I love you babe!!! Don't go sell pinnalce, or else!!!
Mom: I'm pretty sure Helga is too senial to miss me, and please feel free to tell gerado to do whatever he wants with my posters, some of them were Adam's anyways. Good luck with the play!!!
Matt: LOVE YA
Meghan: I'll write you a real letter
Caden: thanks for the E-card
Dad: Skylar was always an idiot. my tax refund was supposed to go into us bank. I love you I'm out of time the thing is blinki9ng at me I'll send you a real letter too
LOVE LOVE!!!

February 4th

Hey Family and Friends!!!!!
Thank you alll soooooo much for your letters and emails!!!! I LOVE getting mail!!!! sorry I don't have time to email all of you back but I love you!!!!!
The MTC is awesome!!!! it's like a Spiritual explosion everyday!!! I love it!!! I have an awesome district, we are always laughing. I'm pretty sure our teachers think we're nuts but really by the time 7 PM rolls around we are all sooo exhausted that we just get a little crazy. The food is awful, I don't care that I can have cereal everyday, ew. It's really sad when I can choose from like 5 or 6 different meals and I choose salad everytime. One of my companions, Sister Davis told me a horror story of a friend that gained 40 pounds in the MTC!!! 40 POUNDS!!!!! no way!!! everytime we wake up early to go to early morning optional gym I think to myself, well i say it out loud too, "40 pounds, oh no, 40 pounds" so don't worry I'm not gonna gain a bunch of weight until I get to Brasil ;)
Beside disgusting food, we get to take what I like to call ice-showers. If any of you have ever lived with me you know that I LOVE my long hot showers!!!! And now, that is all over. Not only am I limited for time but as soon as I step in I want to get out because the water is FREEZING!!! you think I'm exagerating but no, this water is like ice cold. not even room temperature or luke warm. It's arctic. Today we went to the temple, it was amazing!!! i LOVE the temple!!! We were sitting there and my other companion, sister Turner's stomach was growling the whole time (seriously the food is nasty, we don't eat....ever) and so all 3 of us were trying SOOOO hard to feel the spirit and be reverent but it wasn't happening. Espescially when we had to rent clothes and they were all sorts of different from the ones at home ha ha ha ha ha ha oh well I want everyone to make an effort to make it to the temple in the next couple weeks!!! NO JOKE!!! You NEED to be there!!!! it's soooo amazing!!!
Anyways On wednesday I got a HUGE slice of humble pie. I didn't order it, i mean really, I wanted cake. ha ha but my class went to the TEC slash TRC or whatever it's called (we can't ever remember) but anyways we got to contact and teach some pretend investigators. It was soooo fun we did a really good job.......and then.....it happened. Our teacher started what is called a "progressive investigator" where he acts like someone else and we get to teach him all the lessons. Ours was scheduled for right after the TEC, we went in really confident and ready to teach him, so we thought. Sister Turner and I froze. Everything I ever knew about the church flew away...it just dissapeared. It was awful Sister Davis talked like the whole time. And when I FINALLY decided to stop being a big tard and open my mouth I reverted to primary sayings, "keep the comandments: blah blah blah. It was terrible. LEARNING EXPERINCE!!!!! ha ha so we have our next lesson scheduled andplanned out and i WILL redeem myslef. don't you worry.
Tuesday was my first MTC devotional!!! it. was. amazing!!! Elder Duncan spoke (don't ask me who he is because it's burried in my notes and I don't have time to find it) ha ha anyways, it was this amazing talk about God knows each and everyone of us. I felt sooo uplifted it was awesome!!! I can't wait til next week. ummm but at the same time it was horrible!!!! ha ha ha ha ha I was singing in the choir and as The song began the camera zoomed RIGHT UP ON MY FACE!!!! and if you've been to the MTC you know that the screens are HUGE!!! No one's face should EVER be that big, NO ONE!!!!! it was awful I'm STILL running into people who are like OH i recognise you from the choir!!! great...... ha ha anyways.....
I love you all and just a quick spiritual message because I only have a few minutes left: There are no coincidences only small miracles and messages from God. Please talk to that person you see in the line at the bank or grocery store. Give that nice little old lady a hand, you NEVER know when a simple smile can change someones life.
P.S. I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE pictures from everyone!!!!! I can't figure out how to upload pictures on this computer but as soon as I do I'll send some out!!!!
LOVE,
SISTER OTTLEY!!!! (yea it's still weird to say that, Meredith rolls off the tongue much smoother...Mur-edith)
LOVE YA!!!
Mom: I love you! I miss you, sorry I left my coat out :) I just didn't want you to forget me. Tell Brandon he will have to fix my sub if he buys the focus :) Hope your life gets less hectic good luck on the play!!! I have not met that elder you talked about and I have no clue who sister norris is.....sorry
Matt: happy Birthday I LOVE YOU!!!!
Dad: Sorry your cow died......I love ya!!!!! Write me soon!!! you don't HAVE to email me on thursday nights you can send one whenever you want :)

Meredith on her way to the MTC

So Owen and I got to pick Meredith up today. We took her to lunch and then over to the kids school so they could say goodbye. Caden was still in class when we had to leave, so only Chloe got to say goodbye.

The people at the MTC took Meredith, but not before asking her to hand over her car keys and cell phone. :)

PS

Hey just a side note!!! I'd love some more pictures of everyone!!! I didn't think that that would matter but I really do want some especially family but I want so friend ones too!!!

Please post this on the blogs as well loves!!!
